Scott M. Karsten is a graduate of Wesleyan University and the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he was third in his class and graduated with honors. He was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1982, the Pennsylvania Bar in 2002, and is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Districts of Connecticut, Vermont and New York (Eastern and Southern), the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Karsten is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the Oliver Ellsworth Inn of Court. Prior to practicing law, he was a police officer and president of the police union in West Hartford, Connecticut.
Mr. Karsten’s practice focuses upon jury trials of complex civil actions in both state and federal courts; he has tried over seventy cases to verdict or court judgment. He also has engaged in extensive appellate work at both the state and federal levels. In addition to handling a variety of other tort defense cases, Mr. Karsten specializes in the defense of civil rights actions against state and municipal government employees and officials, education agencies and employees, public and private sector employment matters, and professional liability claims, including legal and architectural malpractice. Nicole D. Dorman is a graduate of St. Joseph College and the University of Connecticut School of Law, where she was fourth in her class and graduated with high honors. Admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1988, she is also admitted to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Dorman holds a Master of Social Work from Catholic University of America and, prior to practicing law, worked as a clinician in both inpatient and outpatient health care settings. That background allows her to understand both the technical and legal aspects of claims of illness or injury. Her practice includes a wide range of civil matters with emphasis on all aspects of municipal defense, particularly employment and education claims. James N. Tallberg is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Law, with honors, and Southern Connecticut State University. He began his career as a Litigation Manager for The Travelers Insurance Company and was admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1996. He is also admitted to the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Tallberg’s practice includes the defense of public officials, professional liability defense, employment liability practices, business litigation and insurance coverage disputes. He has tried over a dozen cases
to verdict or court judgment including claims of wrongful death, civil rights violations under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, false arrest, unlawful search and seizure, First Amendment retaliation, assault, negligence, breach of contract, and CUTPA. Mr. Tallberg is also approved counsel for the District of Connecticut’s Criminal Justice Act (“CJA”) panel, for which he defends a select number of federal
criminal prosecutions. In 2005, he was chosen by the Connecticut Law Tribune as a recipient of the “New Leaders of the Law Impact Award” for exceptional success in his practice area. Anne M. Rajotte is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and received her law degree from Boston College Law School in 2004, where she was editor in chief of the Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review. During law school she published a student note, Asthma and Pesticides in Public Schools: Does the ADA Provide a Remedy Where FIFRA Fails to Protect?, 31 B.C. Envtl. Aff. L. Rev. 103 (2004), and Featured Case Note, Aguinda v. Texaco, Inc., 303 F.3d 470 (2d Cir. 2003), ABA Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities Environmental Justice Committee Newsletter, Fall 2003. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Rajotte served as a law clerk to the justices of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court. Ms. Rajotte was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 2004, the Connecticut Bar in 2006, and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut in 2007. Kerry L. Keeney is a graduate of Stonehill College and received her law degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law, where she graduated with honors. During law school she was a Casenote Editor of the Law Review and completed an International Study Abroad Program at Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland in 2005. Ms. Keeney is an active alumni member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity and served on the electoral board of the William O’Douglas Chapter during 2006 and 2007.
